TOR Rules (Read this before posting)

Welcome to The Other Realm

The vast plane where mystical creatures of every kind and shape take refuge. From clubs, bars, hotels, schools and forests to fires, wars and pocket-sized Armageddons, there is much to explore in our universe of causal role-play. Each thread has a place within The Other Realm located on this vast area, feel free to travel throughout the threads, mingle and meet new characters along the way and perhaps get yourself some battles or romance along the way.

However, if you’re lost, don’t be afraid, for we are here to help you. As you start you may notice people using some aberrations that will be commonly used. Here are some explanations to the most common you might find:
RP: Role-play
TOR : The Other Realm
IC: In Character, will refer to you character actions while you role-play
OOC: Out Of Character, refers to anything said besides the actual roleplaying. Please be sure to label such messages accordingly
PM: Private Message
RFP: Read First Post; the creator of the roleplay wishes that you read the first post of the thread before joining the roleplay as it contains information vital for participation.
Substantial sentences: at least 10 words per sentence.

General Rules

Everyone is welcome to join the threads in The Other Realm, however, we would ask you to follow 5 simple rules in return:

  • No One-lining: one-lining refers to any post that does not have more than one line or sentence of IC text or when the IC text is made entirely of speech. An easy way to avoid this is pressing enter to separate speech from action. We feel that members should be encouraged in their creative writing, if you would like to chat instead of RP, we suggest you go to Ramblings located here

    NOTE
: Quoting and OOC comments DO NOT count towards the posts. Eg- if you post a 5 line OOC comment and then a one line character post, it is still counted as one-lining.
  • No Double posting: This means there two posts, one after the other, from the same member. We encourage you to make use of the edit function at the top right of your initial post if you have anything more to add. Double posts will be warned or deleted.
  • No Spam/Off-topic: This means posts that don't relate to the thread you are posting in. It also means posts that are completely OOC. Any OOC comments should be accompanied by a character post.
  • No Plagiarism: When posting work that is not your own, like lyrics for example, be sure to post the name of the author and title of the piece. You also need the permission to recreate any role-play that was posted by someone else. A Role-play that was not granted permission to be recreated will be locked upon the wish of its original creator.
  • PG-13 content: When posting, keep in mind that there are younger members participating as well. This means that content of your posts can't include explicit actions and descriptions that would not be suitable for all members that are allowed to view the content.

If you don’t follow the rules, you will be reminded or warned by the moderators for your actions. Continuous offenses may get you temporarily or even permanently banned from the thread at very least and failure to comply with moderator requests can result in a full board banning.

Thread creation

We’re always interested in new ideas and places to role-play, so feel free to post your own ideas for role-play threads. If you wish to create a new thread in The Other Realm, be sure to have at least five or more substantial sentences worth of description. Description counts as anything that describes the environment or setting that the Role-Play takes place in.

All TOR threads are required to have at least 5 substantial sentences of environmental description in the first post. This means describing the nature of the thread. This can't be included in a character post.

For better orientation, we would advise you to label your thread name in with one of the following labels according to the difficulty of your setting:
[Minor RP] =minor role-play, for threads with a basic storyline that however doesn’t require advanced RPing skills. Profiles are usually not expected.
[Intermediate RP] = for a RP that is of slightly higher level than a minor RP and may require a character profile.
[Major RP] =advanced role-play, for roleplays that demand detailed descriptions and good RPing skills. Profiles are usually expected.
[spar] =for closed battles between two or more characters

Also if you’d like to place your thread in a particular place in the scheme of TOR, you can also state in your description what other threads are near yours. However both placement and the tags are optional and the moderators will not force you to implement them.

All threads are locked at 40 pages, after this, you may re-start them.

Special threads

The Other Realm also allows two types of special threads to be created, which work under a bit modified rules.

Sparing threads: For sparing threads and randomly spawned battles, please mind that battles in TOR are open style by default, unless both participants agree otherwise. Please also mind two more techniques that should be avoided:
God-modding: This is, when a role-player manipulates or ignores the setting and rules to allow themselves unfair advantages over other player(s). This can include dealing a death blow in the first post or having a God-like character that is impossible to be injured (Come on guys, Gods have better things to do than hang out in TOR).
Meta-Gaming: Meta-gaming involves having your character using OCC knowledge that you yourself know but your character could not possibly know

Weddings: for those lucky enough to have found a significant someone to RP with the moderators offer to bring these to together in a not-all-that-holy bond of TogetherNetness. You are permitted to make a thread, have guests and a ceremony. However, a TOR moderator or head moderator from another section or admin (If you can convince them) will act as a priest. With the power vested in them (by the state of Reparo Rapido) The ceremony will be legally binding for as long as the storyline should last.

After the ceremony is completed, the thread will be open for 48 hours for well-wisher to give their congratulations and unwell-wishers to trash the place before the thread gets locked.

That concludes our little guide to The Other Realm, we do hope you enjoy your stay. And if you happen to have any other questions, be sure to contact the moderators for assistance.
