The Video Game forum rules

Video Game Forum Rules:
  • Standard HV rules always apply.

  • This explains the basics of what we want, but do read on: Hilarious Video about posting etiquitte.

  • Grammar and Spelling: Grammar is your friend, if nobody can understand what you're saying, then we can't reply with anything useful. Spelling is also your friend. This isn't a video game where typing as quickly as possible is a good thing. If you're told to clean up your text by a mod, you're being told to do-so for a reason. So do it, and leave your ego out of the forum.

  • On game help threads: If you need help with a game first try GameFaqs. That site is your best chance on the internet to get the help you need. If you're looking for cheats, try cheatcc.com. Creating a discussion thread with a question thrown in is acceptable but a full topic based around one small request or question is not.

  • Double Threading: If there is already a topic on the first three pages that resembles the one you wish to post, use the already established thread. This keeps things nice and clean, and therefore nice and easy to navigate (and easier for mods to maintain).

  • Thread Necromancy: Don't post in a thread that has passed the third page or is 3 months old. Reviving a thread that was last updated a year ago is asinine.

  • No ROM requests or any such downloads that could be deemed illegal. If you want to discuss the effects or morallity of ROMs, that is acceptable.

  • No Final Fantasy threads unless they are for SPECIFIC Final Fantasy games or the current general discussion thread is locked/past the third page. I don't care which Final Fantasy character you want to date/fuck/have dinner with, and neither does the rest of VG. We don't care that "Final Fantasy is going downhill", or that it's "the greatest series of rpgs evar"... and we don't care which Final Fantasy 7 is your favorite Final Fantasy 7.

  • No "Is X Better Than Y," "Why do you hate/I hate X" topics and or polls in the main forum, where X and Y are Games, Franchises, Genres, Consoles etc. etc.  Threads about popular franchises, companies and specific genres will naturally turn into this, but the process doesn't need your help.

  • New Rule! -
(In relation to the previous rule) :
Versus threads between video game characters are back on the cards, but in a controlled capacity. Let me explain a bit.

You may make a Versus Thread provided that:

There are NO Final Fantasy-specific fights. That's the Bermuda Triangle of versus threads. A character from Final Fantasy versus a character from another game is acceptable.

The thread itself is unbiased toward either side of the versus thread.

The thread provides information about each character involved, and the description is at least a decent paragraph long. It would help if you provided a picture also. Appropriate info would be a general back story of the character so people know why he is the way he is (not a long running story of all of his/her exploits, but something to keep readers aware), the number of games the character has been in (or at least the important ones), and abilities.

On a related note; do NOT start childish arguments within the thread. If you're going to argue about pointless shit like who'd win in a fight, do it like an adult. Don't start crying/ flaming/ shit-stirring because one of your favorite characters was labeled a turd-eating animal-rapist, whether it's through subtlety or not. You should be able to figure out what is acceptable and what is not by yourself, but I wanted to make sure that the concept was established here so that there are no excuses. Just practice decent forum-going etiquette.

  • No "Should I buy X or Y?" threads where X and Y are games, consoles, etc. There's a thread stickied for things like that.

  • Video game reviews Here! Threads about popular franchises and specific genres will naturally turn into this, but -again- the process doesn't need your help.

  • Please, please, PLEASE... for the love of God do not post your entire topic title in Capslock font. Or your opening post for that matter. There's no need for it, we don't need a hand spotting your thread and it really does nothing to make the forum/topic better. Repeated offenses will result in a locking of the topic (regardless of whether it otherwise abides by the rules or not) and a warning.

  • Respect other members. It's very simple really.

  • No Video Game Movie threads, this referring to video games being turned into movies.  Threads like that belong in Entertainment Zone and will be moved there without a shadow topic being left behind.  The creator of the thread will be PM'd when this happens.

  • Have fun: Really, this is extremely important, joke around, laugh a little, and don't feel scared to share your opinion; that's what this forum is for. Just don't go nuts if somebody disagrees with you, calmly discuss things.

    Rule X:

  • The rules are not perfect. This is why we have moderators. Listen to them, obey them. If you have a problem with my or another mod's judgment, then PM them, PM me, or get over it. DO NOT FIGHT WITH ME OR OTHER MODS IN THREADS. Period.

Problems with other members/mods/rules can be PM'd, emailed, MSN'd, AIM'd, Yahoo'd, or ICQ'd to any other moderator of the forum.
