I love my girl.

Ok same Idea as with my poetry Critique is welcome and please tell me what you like and don't Like. Take your time as I am still working on this
Angels By KJ08 This book is a work of fiction although you may find the characters all around you, as they have hints of my friends mixed in to their fictional fabric of being. The story is dedicated to those friends who have stood by, pushed me and supported me. Also and more then anything else to my love, my “Angela”, my darling Melissa for you editing, love, and for being a wall to bounce Ideas off of. I love you with all my heart and soul.
His name hadn’t always been Daryl. He hadn’t always been an orphan nor had amnesia. He did, however, know that he had never really liked himself, and while he lay in bed contemplating his entire life he realized just how strange it was. He could remember many things about who he was but nothing about what had happened to him. In fact all he knew about that was that he was the soul survivor of a car crash that had killed the rest of his family. He sat up, shut off his alarm, got ready then, headed off to school. The school days were all the same, the faces never changed. Daryl spent most classes nearly asleep. They were all too easy but he never bothered to push himself to do any better. He saw it as a waste of time as he had no plans other than to work for the rest of his life. Art class was the only place his abilities showed. Drawings of weapons, paintings of angels and sculptures of demons were all part of his portfolio. His favourite piece was a simple line sketch of what he called “an angelic artist.” This was based on the girl who sat next to him in class, Angela Sampson. Angela was the sort of girl that everyone had an opinion about. Some thought she was naive, others that she was hiding something dark inside that suitable exterior. Which ever it was she always came across as shy, small and sweet. Many of the boys in the school had made it known to her, as well as each other, that they wanted to get with her. One of the few who hadn’t was Daryl but he seemed to not even care about, let alone be interested in any one, except himself. Even that was a stretch thought. Both teens worked on the same street, Daryl as a pump jockey at the gas station and Angela at the convenience store two blocks up. They also both worked nights, with Daryl normally staying late to get some over time pay. He needed this to help pay his rent, which for a seventeen year old was quite high. This was the way his life had been for the past year. As he walked into his one room apartment Daryl wondered what his parents would think if they could see him now. It was about three weeks in their grade eleven year when things began to change. Daryl had been sick for a couple of days and his boss decided to send him home early. So rather than heading straight home he stopped in at the 5’n’Dime where Angela worked. He only bought a couple things but it was enough for her to start talking to him. “You’re off early tonight Daryl. What happened, did you get fired?” She tried to joke. “No, but they might as well have. If I’m so useless when I’m sick that they send me home then why did they even hire me.” He snapped. He needed to be working, he wasn’t that sick. At least he didn’t think he was. “I’m sorry Daryl. I didn’t mean” She was cut off. “I know, you didn’t mean to insult me. You just live at home, your parents make money, and you just work to get some money to spend.” Daryl began to raise his voice, “You joke about me having to go home sick when you aren’t paying for anything important.” “Sir, I’m afraid I am going to have to ask you to leave.” The other store clerk said a little bit scared of the medium height brunette. “I was just leaving!” He shouted as he stormed out. Daryl walked over to the bus stop and sat down. Which was odd, as he never took the bus home. He began to try to catch his breath. Normally, Daryl wasn’t a very angry person but he hated being sick. Nothing was normal. He couldn’t even, his train of thought stopped as he sneezed, think straight. It also meant that whatever spending money he might have had for the next two weeks was down the drain on lost hours and meds so he could get back to work sooner. The whole thing was just a frustrating cycle and now to top it all off, he had gone off on Angela. He knew she hadn’t meant any harm, she was just playing, but it was aggravating him that she was happy and he wasn’t. Daryl had leaned his head back to try and get rid of the killer headache all this thinking was starting to give him. He heard someone approaching but didn’t look forward until he heard, “Your head doing ok?” “What are you doing Angela, did they fire you?” he asked sarcastically. “Nope, just got off work, you never see me because I take the bus home at night.” She smiled happily. “You look like your head is killing you.” “Yeah it is, so what?” the young man snarled. Angela’s smile broadened, “I grabbed some stuff before I left. They’re just some of the cure-alls that help me when I’m sick.” She pulled a bag out from behind her back. “Well what are they?” “Cough and cold syrup and some chocolate bars.” Daryl flashed a sceptical look at her. “What the hell is the chocolate for?” “The bad case of grumpiness you’ve caught.” At this Daryl began to laugh. “Grumpiness, I’m just frustrated about finances.” He sneezed again. “You know you didn’t have to do this.” “Well like you said, I just make money to spend, so I chose to spend it on you.” “Why, of all the poor souls in the world, did you choose me?” “I think of you as my friend and I like to help my friends. That’s why.” She said handing him the bag. “Go ahead it’s yours.” Daryl sat there, dumbfounded, at the fact that someone actually considered him a friend. He wanted to repay her, but the best he could think of was escorting her home. Not wanting to look rude he decided to give it a shot. Her reaction was, once more, different than what he had expected. “You really want to walk me home? You don’t need to pay me back you know.” “But I want to pay you back.” “Well, I would like the company and I would definitely feel safer.” She said as her face lit up with gratitude. “Wait how will you get home?” “I can walk it. You don’t live to far from me.” Daryl smiled as the both boarded the bus. The two friends made some small conversation as the bus droned on. Daryl even pointed out where he lived. Before Angela would let him start heading home she asked Daryl for his number which he willingly gave up. She smiled as he started home.
Daryl had the best night’s sleep he had had in a long time. He wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol in the cough medicine or just the fact that he was happy about Angela being so nice. Either way when he woke up he felt better in some way, until he stood up. He rushed to the washroom and threw up. Once he had cleaned up, he walked very slowly out to the living room. He allowed himself to plop down on his couch and flip through the channels on TV. At last he decided on some movie which he paid very little attention to. Instead he closed his eyes and tried to will himself back to sleep. When the phone rang he ignored it knowing that the answering machine would pick up with its familiar; “Daryl’s place. Wrong number, try again. If not, wait for the tone and do what comes naturally.” What came after that was not what he was expecting at all. “Hey Daryl, I finally got your number right. I was having some issues reading it. So I was just calling to see if you were feeling any better. You either are or you’re sleeping.” Daryl picked up the phone at this point. “I was trying to sleep.” “Oh sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you. So are you ok?” “Well other than throwing up this morning, yeah I guess a little bit.” “What do you mean a little bit?” “Well I’m still sneezing, puking and coughing, but I slept amazingly. I also well; I guess I’m just happy to have someone to talk with.” He said with a tired half smile. “Say, would you rather have someone there in person to talk with rather than just over the phone. I mean I aah don’t know how your feeling or you would be up for some company...” “I would really appreciate someone else here to break the silence. Wait your parents know I live alone, right?” “Well that’s why I was hoping you were feeling ok because I’m going to bring Jessie with me, if you don’t mind that is.” She smiled trying to not sound to nervous about what she was asking. “A hell why not, the more the merrier, I can’t stand being alone right now. Even Jessie might make me laugh.” Daryl rolled his eyes. He wasn’t friends with Jessie but there were better times to complain. “So which apartment are you?” “What are you guys here already? It’s E8. Let me get dressed, actually I’ll unlock the door just come in and make your selves at home...” “How about you just buzz us in and then go get dressed. We’ll wait in the living room.” “Yeah that sounds good, ok see you soon.” Once Daryl hung up the buzzer went off, the doors unlocked and the pair hurried up to the 8th floor. Several minutes later they knocked on his door. Jessie and Angela both gave each other an interested look as Daryl let them in as he was only half dressed. “Are you sure you’re not feeling well Daryl ‘cause you sure are looking good.” Jessie grinned. “Oh shut-up before I snap you in half. I just can’t find a shirt I haven’t barfed in yet ok.” He snapped at Jessie sounding a little bit annoyed. “Come on Daryl, you know he’s just kidding around.” Angela smiled. “Besides I already asked and moved on. I just like to flirt when I know it bugs people.” Daryl couldn’t take anymore and began to laugh. “Jess you know you drive me nuts right?” “Yes I do Pukey.”Jessie grinned again as he patted Daryl on the head. “Does anyone want some green tea, you know Dar’ it might help you feel better.” Daryl rolled his eyes but agreed to try. If the chocolate worked this may too and that meant getting back to normal sooner. Jessie got right to work boiling some water, when he asked if Daryl had any lemons, Angela almost assaulted him for it. Daryl laughed so hard at the way Jessie fell on his ass that it threw him into a coughing fit. Once the tea was ready and Daryl had stopped coughing his lungs up, the trio sat down at the little kitchen table. “Dar I really think you should stay home from school this week and get better. I’m sure Ang would help me get all your homework for you.” Jessie offered. “I think I will be well enough tomorrow to go back to school and work, and stop calling me Dar.” He protested. “Daryl, I have to agree with Jessie. You really should stay at home. You don’t want to puke in class do you?” Angela commented before returning to her lemon. “We’re your friends Daryl. We want to help you, you know. Why do you always resist us?” “Well I don’t consider you my friend Jessie, and I don’t know Angela that well.” Angela and Jessie looked at each other then Daryl in shock. “You and I used to be very close friends. We knew each other’s dreams and I know you were extremely close to Ang. In fact you used to be her neighbour. You two grew up together.” Ang nodded. “You think I remember any of this. I can’t remember anything from before the crash. The farthest back that I remember is the sound of the twisting metal and crinkling of the glass from the car that I was in when it crashed and people around me screaming as well. Do you know what that’s like? No you don't, no one does. So just leave me alone. I will see you guys at school tomorrow.” Daryl leaned back in his seat and glared at his shoes. “Well if you don’t remember us being friends then why can’t we start up a new friendship? You already know that we like being with you” Angela asked leaning forward and putting her hand on Daryl’s shoulder. He shuddered. There was always something about Angela that caught him off guard. “Yeah what do you say Daryl, turn a new leaf, or whatever.” Jessie said as Daryl lifted his grey eyes to meet their blue and teal ones. He said the first thing that came to his mind. “Can we have ice cream?” They began to laugh and Daryl sneezed. He didn’t know why he had freaked out on them. They were both so nice to him. Maybe he could use a couple of friends so long as they didn’t backstab him as everyone else he had tried to befriend had.
